Upper Circle
The highest section of the Duke of York’s Theatre, the Upper Circle, is a one big block of seating not separated by any aisles. Due to the curved shape of this part of the venue seats towards the end of rows have restricted side-views of the stage and the front of the stage is usually cut off.
The overhang from the unused Balcony covers the whole section however it does not affect the audience members in any way. The best seats in the Upper Circle are seats 7-18 in row A and 9-15 in row B as they offer clear and panoramic view of the stage. It is generally advised to sit as centrally as possible in this section of the theatre.
Legroom does feel terribly restricted here and taller audience members might find themselves very uncomfortable, hence they are advised to purchase an aisle seat or choose a different section of the theatre.
For those who are not after comfort and can adapt to watching from a distant position, the venue offers cheap tickets at the rear of the section and they are either standing tickets or bench tickets, however it is worth noting that bench seats are extremely uncomfortable and offer very restricted views.
The Upper Circle should be avoided by those who are after cosiness as the conditions might really hinder their experience. This section of the venue is not wheelchair accessible and is not suited for those with reduced mobility issues.
