A Night with Janis Joplin description

Fancy experiencing an awe-inspiring Tony Award nominated Broadway show? Love rock ‘n’ roll? Playing a limited run in London for summer 2024, the UK premiere of the Janis Joplin musical stars Mary Bridget Davies and Sharon Sexton as Janis Joplin.

A Night With Janis Joplin takes you on a magical, powerful musical journey celebrating Joplin and her biggest musical influences, female legends like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith. They all played a part in inspiring Joplin to become one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s most remarkable female icons.

Two amazing women in the starring role

Mary Bridget Davies, a talented musician in her own right, played the role of Janis Joplin for the touring and Broadway productions, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her performance. Her band The Mary Bridget Davies Group released an album with original songs in 2012 titled Wanna Feel Somethin. Sharon Sexton (Bat Out of Hell, Billy Elliott) is an experienced musical theatre performer, commercial singer and cabaret artist.

Joplin’s success and tragedy

Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Joplin hit the music scene back in 1967. She instantly became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll thanks to her powerful, unmistakable voice, a sound packed with raw emotion. As a must-see headliner at festivals including Monterey and Woodstock, she fast became a darling of the music scene. She tragically died aged just 27, a massive loss rivalling that of Jimi Hendrix just a couple of weeks earlier.

An unforgettable musical experience

This show has a long history and an impressive background, first appearing on stage in 2011 before taking off on tour for two years and breaking box office records almost everywhere it landed. In late 2013 it opened on Broadway’s Lyceum Theater to rave reviews. Afterwards, it returned to touring the USA and has been touring the US ever since, along with a smash hit run in Japan during 2022.

A Night With Janis Joplin has a Book and direction by Randy Johnson, choreography by Patricia Wilcox (A Night With Janis Joplin – Broadway, Motown – Broadway, West End). Casting is by Anne Vosser. It’s produced by Michael Cohl, Tony Smith and the estate of Janis Joplin and Jeffrey Jampol for Jam, Inc, with UK General Management by MPSI Ltd. The musical is packed with classics including ‘Piece of My Heart,’ ‘Cry Baby’, and ‘Me and Bobby McGee’.
