Alterations description

Ready for groundbreaking classic comedy? The Bush Theatre Artistic Director Lynette Linton (Blues for an Alabama Sky, Shifters) is back at the National Theatre to direct the first revival of Alterations in forty years. The stars of the show are Arinzé Kene and Cherrelle Skeete.

This brilliant 1978 comedy is by Michael John Abbensetts, a Guyana-born British writer who settled in England during the 1960s. Described as the best black playwright of his generation and a writer who gave Caribbeans a real voice in the UK, he was the first black British playwright to write a TV drama series, Empire Road, shown on the BBC in the late ‘70s.

The plot

Walker Holt has grand dreams for his shop, but the enormous order he’s agreed to is going too slow and time is short. He works his hardest to satisfy his new client’s off-the-scale requirements but as tensions rise, Walker’s friendships and relationships are being pushed to the limit. Will the cost of success prove too high?

The Set and Costume Designer is Frankie Bradshaw and the Lighting Designer Oliver Fenwick. The Movement Director is Shelley Maxwell, Composer Duramaney Kamara, Sound Designer George Dennis, and Wigs, Hair and Make-up Designer Cynthia De La Rosa.
