Disney's Hercules Musical description
Hercules is divinely funny, based on the brilliant 1997 Disney film of the same name and full of the same beloved show tunes. If you want to meet an actual Greek god in human form who’s on a quest to discover himself and where he belongs, this one is for you.
This vibrant comedy musical tells the story of Hercules, the son of ancient Greek gods Zeus and Hera. Hercules, who is half human and half god, grows up on earth with ordinary people. But he’s superhero-strong and never quite feels like he belongs. Once he finds out he’s actually a demi-god, Hercules decides to become a hero and return to Mount Olympus, home of the gods.
An awesome cast and creative team
Hercules himself is played by Luke Brady, whose previous theatre credits include As You Like It for the RSC, SuperYou at the Lyric Theatre, Assassins at Chichester Festival Theatre, and The Prince of Egypt at the Dominion Theatre.
The music comes from the 8-times Oscar winner Alan Menken with lyrics by Tony Award winner David Zippel. The fresh new book is by Tony Award winner Robert Horn, who gave us Tootsie, and the ex-artistic director of The Young Vic Theatre, Kwame Kwei-Armah.
Hercules is directed and choreographed by Tony-winner and West End royalty Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), co-choreographed with Tanisha Scott. There’s set design and additional video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Gregg Barnes and Sky Switser, and lighting design by Jeff Croiter. The sound designer is Adam Fisher.
Video design by George Reeve, hair by Mia M. Neal, make-up by Kirk Cambridge-Del Pesche and special effects by Jeremy Chernick join music supervision and arrangement by Michael Kosarin, orchestrations from Danny Troob and Joseph Joubert, and dance arrangements by David Chase to complete the picture. The casting is by Natalie Gallacher CDG for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.
