Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors description

Love campy, gothy humour? You'll adore the fast-paced, outrageously funny Dracula A Comedy of Terrors, a hilarious take on Irish author Bram Stoker's beloved 1897 horror story. What would Stoker think of this wonderfully silly gender-bending masterpiece? We like to think he'd laugh his Victorian socks off.

A hilarious plot

The plot goes like this. The scene is the misty mountains of Transylvania where the meek estate agent Jonathan Harker meets a mysterious new client who turns out to be Count Dracula. Dracula likes the look of the estate agent's fiancé, scientist Lucy Westfeldt but she turns out to be more than a match for his evil ways, especially since he's suffering from an existential crisis. Vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing, insect lover Renfield and psychiatrist Wallace Westfeldt join the fun to deliver ninety minutes of comic genius.

A cast of five actors plays all the roles in this fast-paced production that changes gender norms, delivers loads of top class wordplay, cartoon-style violence and plenty of sexual innuendo. As they chase Dracula from Transylvania to the UK and onwards to London, things get sillier by the second.

The stars of the show and the creative team

James Daly (Letterkenny, Saving Hope, Wendy and Peter Pan, La Cage au Folles) reprises the role of Dracula, with Safeena Ladha (The 39 Steps) as Lucy Westfeldt, Dianne Pilkington (Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Tess) as Dr Westfeldt, and Charlie Stemp (Half a Sixpence, Hello Dolly, Mary Poppins) as Jonathan Harker. Written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen, the Director is Gordon Greenberg (The Baker’s Wife, Barnum), the Set Design is by Tijana Bjelajac, the Costume Design is by Tristan Raines, Lighting Design is by Ben Cracknell, and the Sound Design is by Yvonne Gilbert. The fun is presented in association with Drew & Dane Productions.
