Elephant description
Anoushka Lucas's critically acclaimed one-woman play Elephant is back, revived at the Menier Chocolate Factory for a strictly limited six week season. An award winning actor and writer who has appeared in Rhinoceros, A Face in the Crowd, Oklahoma!, The Crucible, Henry V, After Life and more, she plays Lylah in a compelling love story that is partly a gig, partly a musical, and partly a bold exploration of one woman's experiences of racism in modern Britain.
Commissioned by the Bush Theatre, Menier Chocolate Factory, and Kindred Partners, the creative team includes designer Georgia Wilmot, lighting designer Laura Howard, sound designer Xana and video designer Gillian Tan, directed to perfection by Jess Edwards. Anoushka Lucas won the Best Writer Award at The Stage Debut Awards for the show, as well as being nominated for Most Promising Playwright at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. The plot examines the life of scholarship student Lylah whose home and school life were all about being good, all of the time. When she falls in love but things don't feel quite right, she begins an emotional journey into her origins and purpose.
