Evita description
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita is back in town for 2025, this time directed by Jamie Lloyd. He's no stranger to the musical, having directed an award-winning outdoor production in 2019 at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Expect brilliance and you won't be disappointed!
What's the Evita plot?
Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, the Tony-winning musical follows Eva Duarte – married name Eva Peron - on her journey. As Argentina's legendary First Lady Eva Perón rose from obscurity to become Latin America's most influential woman. As a powerful but divisive symbol of hope, she captured her country's heart. This musical explores her life from the early days of poverty to her time as a political leader, activist and actress, and Argentine president Juan Perón's second wife. Evita died of cancer at 33 years old, but her legacy lives on.
The history of Evita
The musical, which contains beautiful tunes like Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, the Oscar-winning You Must Love Me and Oh What A Circus, started life as a rock opera concept album in 1976. Seldom off stage since its 1978 premier, it was made into a five-Academy-Award-winning movie starring Madonna in 1996, and today is widely regarded as Webber and Rice's finest musicals.
The creative talent behind Evita
The Producer is Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company. Jamie Lloyd is an award-winning director loved for his thrilling re-imaginings of classic plays and musicals. We expect the cast to be equally classy!
