Here We Are description
People turn up. You didn’t invite them. You’re not prepared, so you take them out for the perfect brunch. But things soon start to get weird. You’ll love this, Stephen Sondheim’s final work and a treat for every lover of fine musical theatre.
The cast includes Tony and Olivier award-nominated Tracie Bennet (Coronation Street, the film version of Shirley Valentine, She Loves Me), Olivier award winner Rory Kinnear (The Man Of Mode, Othello, four James Bond movies) and Dennis O’Hare (Take Me Out, Sweet Charity, TV’s True Blood).
The plot is inspired by two movies: The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and The Exterminating Angel, both by Luis Buñuel, and the show premiered off-Broadway at The Shed in September 2023, almost two years after Sondheim’s death.
This production is directed by two-time Tony winner Joe Mantello (WICKED, Assassins). The book writer David Ives is a Tony Award-nominee. The Set and Costume Design is by David Zinn, the Choreography from Sam Pinkleton, and the Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. Additional Arrangements come from Alexander Gemignani. Your Conductor is Nigel Lilley. The Lighting Designer is Natasha Katz, the Sound Designer is Tom Gibbons, and the Casting Director is Bryony Jarvis-Taylor.
It’s Tom Kirdahy, Sue Wagner, John Johnson and The Stephen Sondheim Trust production, co-produced with The National Theatre.
