Inside No.9 description

This is your opportunity to be unsettled, disturbed, spooked and amused! The world premiere stage production based on the hit TV comedy, Inside No.9 Stage/Fright, will run in the West End in 2025, a treat for fans of the TV series and a deliciously fun discovery for those who’ve never seen it.

Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have written a brand new story for the live show, a feast of spooky black comedy that lovers of the TV show will adore. Called ‘Stage Fright’, it’s on at Wyndham’s Theatre in early 2025, starring some of the beloved characters we already know and others we’ve yet to meet. The Director is Simon Evans and both Pemberton and Shearsmith will perform in the 12 week run.

The last ever TV series, the first live stage production

The long-awaited ninth and final award-winning BBC TV series kicks off in May 2024, delivering the duo’s infamous mix of dubious morals, murders at midnight and odd characters who’ll populate your dreams for weeks afterwards. If you’re one of their many worldwide fans, the theatre production means you won’t suffer withdrawal symptoms.

With luck it won’t be the only stage show from the No. 9 team, since Shearsmith and Pemberton have set up a new theatre company called IN9 Theatre Company, intending to create more stage adaptations in future.

New material and plenty of surprises

Expect big comic moments, spooky stuff, high drama, and surprises every step of the way. The idea is that the audience won’t have a clue what to expect, going on a thrilling theatrical journey with the actors. In Steve Pemberton’s words, “We want to deliver the perfect West End night at the theatre”. And we reckon they’ll nail it!

Dark topics are the name of the game with this writing and acting duo. Their plots are always twisty, although now and again the twist is the fact that there isn’t a twist at all. They’re masters at wrong-footing audiences, something they fully intend. From Gothic horror to slapstick comedy, the humour is always deeply dark and typically British. Add deft touches of wicked social commentary and genuine creepiness, and the result is a little slice of wicked black comedy genius.

The pair are known and loved for their hit TV series The League of Gentlemen, the surreal comedy horror sitcom that premiered in 1999, and Psychoville, the 2009 psychological horror-thriller black comedy mystery, which attracted stars like Dawn French, Jason Tompkins, Daniel Kaluuya and Eileen Atkins.

For horror-loaded laughs, walk this way!
