Mozart: Her Story description

Throughout history rich women were expected to learn at least one instrument, read music, perform and compose. The only problem is, they weren’t allowed to perform in public until the 1900s. Mozart had an incredibly talented sister, she was repressed by society, and this is her story.

Until the 20th century women were not allowed to study music in a conservatory, nor could they publish their work. It was thought to be immoral. Some female composers released their music under false male names. As you can imagine, they’ve been forgotten. But one woman, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s older sister Maria Anna Mozart, was particularly talented. Her existence is never mentioned in history books or movies, but this brand new musical celebrates her.
