My Master Builder description
Take a brand new play inspired by the classic of almost the same name by Henrik Ibsen, the father of realism. Add one of the best-loved actors in the UK, Ewan McGregor, a multi-talent on stage, on TV and in Hollywood. Sprinkle in some Michael Grandage magic and you get My Master Builder by US Playwright Leila Raicek.
Great play, great actor, great director
Don't miss this tense new drama directed by theatre legend Michael Grandage (Disney’s Frozen, Orlando, My Policeman). He's working with Ewan McGregor for the first time since they collaborated on Othello and Guys and Dolls at the Donmar Warehouse, marking the actor's first return to the stage after almost two decades. His TV and movie work includes Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Star Wars, A Gentleman in Moscow, Fargo, Halston, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jerusalem – City of Faith and Fury, and more.
The Set and costume design is by Richard Kent, the composer and sound designer is Adam Cork, and the play is produced by the Michael Grandage Company with MarketStall and Seaview Productions.
The story goes like this...
The setting is a posh mansion in the Hamptons, an exclusive summer holiday resort only the mega-rich can afford. It's the 4th July and there's a party being arranged by the powerful publisher Elena Solness to mark the latest building designed by her successful architect husband Henry. All is well until Mathilde arrives unexpectedly, an ex-student of Henry's with whom he'd had an affair. The fragile balance of the couple's marriage is rocked as they face a life-changing reckoning, revealing the vulnerabilities we expose when we let ourselves fall in love.
