About Shucked

Shucked, a fresh new Musical Comedy from Broadway, opens in London’s West End in March 2024. Nominated for nine Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL, Shucked’s book comes from the Tony Award winner Robert Horn. The score comes from the Grammy winning song writing team who write chart hits for a host of US country and western stars, Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. The hilarity – and it is totally hilarious – is directed by the Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien.

Think about the buzz created by the smash hits The Book of Mormon, Oklahoma!, and The Music Man, all of which delivered the same colourful, rebellious, and very funny vibe. There’s a pun for every occasion and the show has been described as having a ‘playfully hokey twist’. Hokey is an American term for ‘cheesy’, and it is indeed cheesy - in the best possible way. Lovely.

Billed as a story about an unlikely hero, an unscrupulous con man, and a battle for the heart and soil (there’s a taste of the quality punning to inspire you!) in a small town, this ‘corn-fed, corn-bred American musical’ will thoroughly satisfy your need for great musical theatre.

The cast, venue, and opening date will be announced nearer the time. In the meantime, here’s what happens. The fun is set in a tiny country community isolated from the world by huge fields of succulent corn. When the crop starts to fail, a young woman called Maizy leaves her Cob County home for the first time in search of a solution. When she falls for a conman’s lies, things get interesting.

What's the story of Shucked?

Cheap tickets for Shucked introduce you to a new 2022 musical. First released in Utah to test the concept, the Broadway production began previews at the Nederlander Theatre in March 2023 before opening on April 4th. The Broadway production netted nine Tony Award nominations.

As well as Best Musical, the nominations were for Best Book for Robert Horn, Best Score For Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, Best Featured Actor for Kevin Cahoon, Best Featured Actor for Alex Newell, Best Scenic Design for Scott Pask, Best Sound Design for John Shivers, Best Direction for Jack O’Brien, and Best Orchestrations for Jason Howland.

The creative team of Shucked features Choreography by Sarah O’Gleby, and music supervision, music direction, orchestrations, and arrangements by Jason Howland.
