Stereophonic description

What happens when a rock band on the verge of superstardom meets up to record their new album? Stereophonic reveals all in a musical treat that has attracted more Tony Award nominations than any other, along with a host more awards and serious critical acclaim. Come along and get carried away by the magic.

Written by the US playwright David Adjmi with music by Will Butler from indie band Arcade Fire, the stars of the show are Andrew R. Butler who plays Charlie, Eli Gelb who plays Grover, and Chris Stack in the role of Simon. All three are accomplished musicians in their own right which, along with a fiery plot and an emotional rollercoaster of a ride, makes the experience entirely unforgettable.

The story

Roll back time to 1976, when a fictional rock band is right on the cusp of superstardom. The show reveals all as they fight their way through recording a new album that could turn them into music industry legends. Will they complete the album or give up and go their separate ways?

The awards

Thirteen Tony Award nominations, five Tony wins (Best Play, Best Direction of a Play, Best Featured Actor in a Play, Best Sound Design of a Play, and Best Scenic Design of a Play), the Drama Desk Award, Drama League Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play for 2023/2024 make this an experience to remember.

The cast and creative team

Eli Gelb makes his London stage debut, reprising an acclaimed performance on Broadway where he won a Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play plus the Drama League Distinguished Performance Award. Chris Stack also makes his London stage debut, reprising his Broadway role. Andrew R. Butler is playing his London stage debut too, again reprising his Broadway role. Together they have a blend of seriously impressive stage, screen and TV credentials as well as being superb musicians in their own right.

The Scenic Designer is David Zinn, the Costume Designer is Enver Chakartash and the Lighting Designer is Jiyoun Chang. Sound design comes from Ryan Rumery and the Music Director is Justin Craig. The Orchestrations are by Will Butler and Justin Craig, with Hair and wig design by Robert Pickens and Katie Gell, and UK Casting by Julia Horan CDG.
