Stiletto description

Do you want a fresh new musical? Tick. Do you adore a great plot? Another tick. This show tells the tale of 1700s Italy, when thousands of poor boys were castrated every year before their voices broke, so they could sing female parts in opera. A gorgeous story set in brutal times.

Stiletto takes place in Venice, in the 18th century, when the city held sway as the glittering capital of European opera. The star of the show is the exceptionally talented Marco, whose beautiful voice has made him into a hot opera celeb. He has a rich patron and a lot of influence, and when he meets and falls in love with the lovely slave’s daughter Gioia, he harnesses his contacts to try to bring her magical voice to the stage. When there’s a grisly murder and Gioia is sent to jail, Marco must do everything he can to save her life.

A fantastic creative crew

The glorious score comes from the three-time Grammy nominee Matthew Wilder (Mulan) and the book is by Olivier nominee Tim Luscombe (Easy Virtue, Eurovision).

The director is David Gilmore, who has 17 beautiful West End productions behind him including Grease, Lend Me a Tenor, Daisy Pulls It Off, The Hired Man and many more.

The choreographer is another respected theatre talent, Anthony Van Laast, a Tony and Olivier nominee with a ton of West End and Broadway hits behind him including Mamma Mia!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Annie Get Your Gun and Song & Dance.

Jae Alexander is the musical director, with orchestrations by Simon Nathan. The set design comes from Ceci Calf, costume design by Anna Kelsey, and the lighting design by Ben Ormerod. The sound designer is Andrew Johnson and the casting is by Neil Rutherford.

The executive producer is Guy Kitchenn and the magic is produced by Patrick Bywalski for the Robert Stigwood Organisation and Steven M. Levy for Charing Cross Theatre Productions Limited.
