The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical description

At last! 10 years after its debut, Bill Kenwright Ltd and Paul Taylor-Mills are presenting the London Premiere of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, adapted from Rick Riordan’s beloved best-selling 2005 book series. The fun kicks off at The Other Palace.

Loved the books? This one’s for you! People of every age turned the series into a best-seller with more than 180 million copies of the books sold worldwide. They’ve been adapted for the big screen and the small, with movies as well as a big-hitter of a TV series for Disney Plus proving so good there’s a second season underway.

A quirky adventurous rock musical

A rock musical so quirky it’ll stick with you for years, the show premiered off-Broadway in 2014 to rave reviews. Two US tours, an second off-Broadway run in 2017 and a 16-week limited run on Broadway in 2019 sealed the deal. This new musical is loved wherever it goes so it’s great to see it in the capital at long last.

The story? It’s 2024, and Percy has discovered he has a set of amazing powers he can’t control. Faced with a future he never asked for and doesn’t want, he’s forced to accept his destiny. Things get worse when a load of mythical monsters arrive and Percy realises that unless he can find his inner hero, the entire world will be thrown into chaos.

Percy and his friends begin an epic adventure to return Zeus's stolen lightning bolt, prove Percy’s innocence and stop war breaking out between the gods. His adventures in the dark Underworld, and the journey back, are captivating, and the ending is perfectly satisfying. You’ll leave the venue feeling uplifted and inspired.

The fun is being produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd and Paul Taylor-Mills, with a book by Joe Tracz (Be More Chill), music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki (Monstersongs), and direction and choreography from Lizzi Gee (Groundhog Day). When you love to be immersed in a world of magic and myth, when you adore being transported into a world like no other, this is the perfect kind of musical.
