The Tempest description

This Shakespeare play is just as popular as it was in the early 1600s. The legendary director Jamie Lloyd brings the Bard’s work to even brighter life. Add Sigourney Weaver and a stellar cast and this is genuine magic. Don’t miss The Tempest at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The classic story goes like this. A ship encounters a violent tempest and starts to sink. The magician and ex-Duke of Milan, Prospero, tells Miranda he started the storm. Ariel goes to get Ferdinand, who falls in love with Miranda. Antonio and Sebastian hatch a dirty plot to kill Alonso, King of Naples. The vessel’s jester and butler get Caliban drunk. Caliban says they should kill Prospero but Arial overhears him. Prospero’s magic spells terrify Alonso and Caliban’s plot fails. Will Prospero forgive them? Come along and see.

A stellar cast of familiar faces from the stage, movies and TV

Hollywood legend Signourney Weaver, who thrilled us in Alien, Avatar, Gorillas In The Mist and The Ice Storm, plays Prospero. She’s joined by Jude Akuwudike (Kyoto, A Mirror) as Alonso, Jason Barnett (The Seagull, Hot Wing King) as Stephano, Selina Cadell (A Monster Calls, The Dresser) as Gonzalo, Mathew Horne (The Lover / The Collection, Gavin & Stacey) as Trinculo, and Mara Huf (The Effect, Childminder) as Miranda.

The rest of the cast involves Forbes Masson (Farm Hall, The Crown) plays Caliban and Mason Alexander Park (Cabaret, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) plays Ariel. James Phoon from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays Ferdinand, Oliver Ryan (Richard III, The Red King) is Sebastian and Tim Steed (Breeders, Jack Absolute Flies Again) is Antonio.
