The Years description
Love extraordinary theatre? Sonia Friedman Productions’ The Years is a sold-out, critically acclaimed adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s semi-autobiographical 2008 novel. It transfers from the Almeida Theatre to the West End for 2025, a play that demands attention. Don’t miss this unique experience.
Five actors reprise their sell-out roles
Reprising their sell-out Almeida Theatre roles are five top class actors from stage and screen. We have Deborah Findlay (Hedda Gabler), Romola Garai (Giant), Gina McKee (Dear England), Anjli Mohindra (Noises Off) and Harmony Rose-Bremner (Hamnet), all playing a single character as her life changes, together weaving a memorable, raw and ultimately life-affirming story of survival.
Internationally acclaimed, five-star drama
The original production of The Years was first staged at Het Nationale Theater in The Hague, Netherlands, during 2022. It was a hit, as was the original UK production at the Almeida, which delighted the critics and saw the play enjoy rapturous five-star accolades.
Internationaal Theater Amsterdam’s artistic director Eline Arbo returns to direct her adaptation of Ernaux’s book, following one woman who was born during the Second World War through the decades as she juggles the complexities of life through personal dramas and political change.
The creative team includes Music Supervisor and Sound Designer Thijs van Vuure, Set Designer Juul Dekker, Lighting Designer Varja Klosse, Costume Designer Rebekka Wörmann, Casting Director Amy Ball CDG and Associate Director Yasmin Hafesji. The play is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.
